Overview:

An 11-week intensive program focusing the configuration, implementation and ongoing support of telecommunications systems and networks. Topics include telecommunications technology; network fundamentals; VoIP systems and integrated network designs and implementation; convergence of telecommunications technologies; VoIP concepts and design; voice/data integration; advanced networks: ATM, DSL, DWDM, Frame Relay, Gigabit Ethernet, MPLS and more; wireless and satellite communications; and telecommunications management.

Case studies are assigned to students who work in teams to develop solutions to real-world telecommunications and business problems.

This program makes use of the College of Computing and Digital Media's Course OnLine (COL) technology, which captures all lecture elements (audio, visual, whiteboard, and classroom PC) and makes it available for online viewing. Only enrolled students have access to view this material and it is only available while the program is in session.

Classes meet on Monday and Wednesday evenings (5:45pm-9pm) and in the morning (9am-12:15pm) on approximately half of the Saturdays, at DePaul University's Loop Campus at 243 South Wabash Avenue, Chicago, IL.
DePaul University reserves the right to cancel any program prior to that program's first class meeting.
Course Credit:

The Telecommunications Program is an accredited course of DePaul University, which follows the quarter system (as opposed to the semester system).

Course #: IPD 392
Credit hours: 10 undergraduate

The credit hours are awarded to those who successfully complete the program's academic requirements. Course requirements include written homework, on-premise lab exercises, and a group project to be presented during the last week of the program. No exams are given.

Textbooks:

Reading materials for certificate programs consist of textbooks and supplementary handouts. Textbook readings are considered preparatory in nature and are typically assigned prior to lectures; supplementary handouts are frequently distributed in class to provide additional information.

Fees: Autumn Quarter 2008

Tuition fee: $3,900.00

Application fee: $40.00 (non-refundable)

Full payment of tuition must be received by the Institute for Professional Development office before the start of the program.

Applicants who wish to use the university's DePEPER Plan (DePaul University's Extension Plan for Employer Reimbursement) must return the DePEPER Plan Application to the Institute for Professional Development Office. Submitting this application to any other DePaul office may delay the student's registration process. Information about this plan, along with an application form, is found here.

The university's refund policy allows a return of 100% of tuition (minus a separate $25 registration fee) if the student drops the Telecommunications Program by September 24, 2008.
